Interview Techniques for Domestic Violence

This interactive and practical workshop aims to improve your skills in identifying cases where you suspect domestic violence is present. It will focus on interviewing skills that engage both perpetrators and victims in the therapeutic process. This workshop will also identify and evaluate your understanding of domestic violence and how this affects your decision making process.  This workshop will provide you with ideas and techniques for dealing with difficult, complex issues in cases involving domestic violence.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence relationships.
  • Develop a practice framework for dealing with domestic violence cases.
  • Develop and enhance skills in interviewing perpetrators and victims.
  • Identify and evaluate potential biases that might influence interpretation of facts and making of decisions in domestic violence cases.

 

 

Facilitator

Dave Misso  BSc Hons (Qld), Grad Dip Bus Admin (Deakin), MAPS, AIMM

 

Dave is a Psychologist with over 20 years clinical experience, specialising in personal, family, relationship and domestic violence counselling. In addition to his clinical experience, Dave has managed one of Australia’s largest non-profit counselling agencies and has occupied key advisory positions for the state and federal governments. His knowledge and experience in the field has led him to conduct training seminars and workshops, television and radio interviews, both in Australia and overseas. Dave has been a regular presenter to the Queensland Police Service in the area of Domestic Violence and was instrumental in developing their training package on perpetrator behaviour for the State Domestic Violence Liaison Officers’ Course.
